My first attempt at locs failed woefully. It was the year 2017, in May precisely. A lovely Loctician called Natasha had started them with two-strand twists. Unfortunately, at month 5, I was very unhappy with them and cut them all off.
I spent the first few months of 2018 considering what else to do with my hair, while grooming a little ‘fro. I decided I didn’t love combs and was going back to locking my hair.
And so March 2018, I decided it was time again. I asked a hairdresser friend to braid my hair in medium size single plaits this time. As they slowly matured, I realised that patience was what I needed and regretted cutting of my locks earlier. I learnt the value of loving my hair through everything and I haven’t looked back since then.
I celebrated one year of being locked in March. It’s been a great journey and I’m simply enjoying the freedom and versatility locs give me. I’m happy to be living a comb-free life.
